Pinecone trick

Take an ordinary open pinecone, like, say, one of these, and drop it in a bucket with a little water.

Shazam!  It closes up (eventually)!  Then take it and put it somewhere dry, like on a windowsill maybe...

Whoa!  It opens back up.
